i have to gush. this was the perfect wkend. i fell in love with conrad all over again, and fell in love with being married. tip: marry your best friend!!

Friday: Tintin and a long cozy fun dinner with Bryn and Tanitha.

SNOW

Saturday: all morning coffee and cuddles and chats in bed; a snowy run through Central park with the snowmen, and ducks playing on the ice; checking things off the list; Method New Year's party (always fun to dress funky and discover cool places and meet interesting people)

Sunday: a sunny snowy perfect walk to mtg; all afternoon in front the Oakwood Bistro's fireplace with our favourite books, drinks, person - eachother :P

Snuck into 'family time' with some of the Goods, fire time, christmas-treat time at the Talbots, snowy hot tub chats...stupidly long lift lines, crowded runs, white-outs...breath-taking views, long winding fun runs, cuddles all the way to the top :p Nita Lake Lodge. Planning 'next time' all the way home!

woke up to a massage...tucked into bed with a massage...and neither of them counted for my "one free massage" because it's my birthday!! ;)

i got to run in the sun.

meandered through gas town in the sun, with con. lunched at a sweet eclectic little cafe, and read books for hours perched in their sunny window sipping espresso and grinning as con bursts out laughing and always has to share the funny bits of his novel (even though i don't always get the funny side of it).

went to the coolest decor shop in gas town.

home for earth hour...with a roaring fireplace, a million candles, and turkey mole!!

nothing overly special, but everything simply wonderful...happy birthday to me!

V day was kind of perfect. Simple. We both worked an exhausting day...with the rest of the work week looming ahead. We gave little gifts, we warmed up left overs, and we said "I Love You". The day of love was acknowledged, without being glamorous and grossly overdone.

Friday night we sat on the couch and earnestly clung to each other saying "I missed you"!!

Sunday morning we walked to mtg holding hands, chatting about love and life and war. We prayed together.

We were edgy and touchy and snippy...and misunderstood. We communicated, fixed, said sorry, and hugged. Just the way Mom and Dad taught us. :P

One night we had an impromptu tres romantic evening...got dolled up (in 5min flat), wined and dined and blushed and giggled, and strolled hand in hand.

That is love. It's in the everyday mundane normal life, the random things that pop up every day that sparkle and squeeze our hearts. And the on-the-spot romance that's "just because".

A winter weekend adventure - North Island style!! Wickedly amazing Lebanese dinner in Naniamo at Aladdin's before embarking on a storming 3 hr drive up the coast - arriving at a pot holed nightmare of a road leading up mountain...chaining up in the dark, laughing nervously, and whooping with relief upon arrival - THANK-YOU driver Ben!! The snow was deliriously phenomenal - i haven't seen anything like it since i was a kid. I felt giddy with excitem

ent when we woke up Saturday AM to get a clear day light view of the winter wonderland we had arrived in! Then, to discover that the chalet/cafe is an old school log cabin with a gigantic pot belly stove pumping out heat, with old wood

en booths and 70's couches... :D We boarded until we could hardly stand, dug our way out of arm pit level HEAVY coastal snow, and road the T-bar (the only lift) until the charlie horses demanded we call it a day! Played bizzare Aussie card games, chatted till the wee hours of the morning, all bunked in together in one squishy/cozy room, and had a great relaxing and edifying Sunday AM. It was a fabulous wkend, and i can't wait to plan next year's excursion!!

On a very wet soggy February Sunday we garbed up and headed downtown for the largest Lunar New Year parade outside of Asia! The wet and cold certainly doesn't keep Vancouverites indoors...it was awesome to see the myriad of cultures all celebrating the Lunar New Year together in Canada! We finished our celebration off with some good "home" cooking at Acme. Yummmm!

My first Saturday morning off in 2011 and it went exactly the way i want every Saturday AM to go this year!! Snuggles and brunch! We sort of kicked it up a notch and ate by the fire and lit some candles, and made fresh bread...it was pretty spectacular, and a perfect incentive to keep the good times rolling! And the rest of the day has been satisfyingly productive...whistle while we work!

Eating humble pie is good for all that ails you/me! It tastes like crap, and burns all the way down, but works wonders on the inside! Last night it broke down the communication barricade, let me see some wonderful qualities in my room mate and her bf - shine through bright and clear, reminded me how talking to Conrad ALWAYS opens my heart and clears my mind. It started with tears of frustration, ended with kisses of relief and a scoop of peanut butter.

I really wish i could just learn these things, and reach out and hug and talk and love and see the good in others all the time WITHOUT having to face plant! However, I'm incredibly thankful for the reality check.

So, yes, i can think of a few major things missing from my holidays - my family. And sleep. The two things i hold most dear in this world.

But i do feel that i absolutely made the best of the situation and am thoroughly satisfied.

And i am looking forward to 2011. More trips home. More kindness/love/tenderness. More tea. More Saturday mornings cuddling and brunching. Mt Cain. Mexico. Les Foux Borgious. BC in the summer. Thanksgiving at home. Special Meetings in Saskatoon.

2010 was a challenging year. when i think back on the dark spots, i get a little panicky about 2011. But dark spots mean growth, understanding, faith...tools to use in 2011!

Some traditions from 2010 that i want to continue forever...snowboarding with my oh-so-patient conrad, home made soup (don't worry though, i promise we wont turn into "the soup people), Pool 88, foot massages, pre mtg chia, Winter Harp, Symphone in the Park, curried fries and peas, an incentive to win at dice, Thursday/Friday coffee and the Georgia Straight, pumpkin carving, Theater in the Park.

Things still on my list of to do's...biking to/for coffee with one of the cutest little old couples i know, White Rock, Chinese New Years in Vancouver, swimming in the Okanogan, a "date" with Tara, cooking with Craig, doing a head stand, the Richmond Night Market, find and watch "the god's must be crazy", a trip to Gibsons.

Let's get this party started!!! :D

Sunday #1 of 2011

Sunday was another fantastic day - my cup seriously runneth over. I am finally feeling connected to Vancouver.

So, we got to head over to the North Shore for Union mtg. Feeling/hearing the spirit loud and clear, sitting beside Conrad my "brother", looking out at the sheer magnificence of God's creation. Humbled and thankful beyond words. Uplifted.

Plans were made...I spent the afternoon preparing Marika's fabulous xmas gift - Rock'n Moroccan Soup!! Ripping across the city to savour sips of 49th Parallel espresso with new friends, old friends, and my boyfriend.

Back home to candles, crackling logs in the fireplace, delicious soup, and friends. Followed by Monty's tales and pics of his recent adventure in South Africa and Kenya - more people for us to pray for and be united with.

Ben and Anna joined us for warmed brownies from Whole Foods and Avalon vanilla ice cream. And the fascinating river of wax, book reviews, techy babble on the couch, and more plans in the works!

This was the perfect finish to our holidays, and the perfect start to 2011.

New Years Day found us hauling our carcasses out of bed, downing a few coffees, and driving out to Langly.

I can not think of any better way to spend New Years Day. Eating mousaka and bacon wrapped moose. Surrounded by the love of grandpas and grandmas, workers, friends, and conrad. Singing hymns with all our hearts. Cuddled into the couch across from the fire. Putting gigantic dollops of whipped cream into my coffee.

NYE 2010 in VANCOUVER!

OK, so this was such an awesome night. I think my favourite night of this Holiday Season.

A couple weeks ago con gave me a list of NYE possibilities. Three options in I say "that's it, that's what i want to do on NYE!"

Allan and Donna Ogden invited us to share the evening with them. Met at the beautiful Water Front Station, dined at the great Water St. Cafe, wandered our way through downtown and sparkling music-filled glamour-filled hotel lobbies, savoured our favourite pumpkin pie while gazing at the dazzling lights of Coal Harbour and tucked into the warmth of the Ogden's and their home. We heard/watched/smelled the steam clock chime, heard the cannon boom, and got to further appreciate a couple who were without their kids and us without our families on NYE 2010.

Jon drove in to van on the last ferry, and we bundled up for some more marching through downtown, this time on the South Side of Georgia. Hit Robson, Denman, Davies, Burrard, managed to avoid Granville! We cheered and kissed in 2011 at some super cute little bistro tucked in beside a fireplace, singing along to Auld Land Sine which was being performed live by a cello and pianist that this lively warm little joint had brought in for the occasion.

The first several hours of the new year found us three laughing and chatting and listening to tunes tucked into my living room.

Glad I left the super high heels at home, glad I wore my new feathery toque, glad the Ogden's chose us, glad Jon joined the festivities, glad i got to spend it we con at my side!

Who says Vancouver is no fun at New Years??? ;P

They don't capture the tension, exhaustion, aching tailbones and sour smells, the icy roads, or the convoy of busses on our way up...or the sheer relief of arrival in vernon!

They don't capture the energy laughter love of 20+ Savards gorging on Turkey dinner!

Pictures miss the first belly laugh of little miss Cypress at FA playing peek-a-boo over Uncle's shoulder.

My pics missed the two birthdays, the good late night chats, Lindsey's pre dice roll dance's, the sleepy breakfasts, the warmth and love and foot massages in the candles' glow, the awesome snow at Silver Star, the glittering toes, the wherring of the treadmill, the awesome mnt view from the front windows, the deer peeping in at the goings on, the goat jokes, the Lewis Family visit, the beautiful drive back to Van in the Crandelmeir wagon.

I believe the coffee pot was by far the most used (and abused!) appliance!

What a good time we had!

Last night was SO MUCH FUN!!!

i walked home in the absolute pouring rain - it was splattering on the inside of my glasses. i could ring my scrubs out when i got home.

when i got home...i walked in to the delectable aromas of moroccan carrot soup, big steaming bowls of rice, and the open waiting arms of Conrad (the chef)!

My chef and i ate the night away, roared with laughter at British comedy clips, AND played in the snow!!!

the pouring rain turned into gigantic palm sized snow flakes sometime around 10pm. we both sprang to the window, then bolted for the door - danced, laughed with glee, and threw some snowballs. then we went back in to warm up in the cozy hazy glow of the candles.

the snow is still here this morning...the plates are still in the sink...the cups and candles are strewn all over the living room. a grand reminder of a great evening. :D

A 13 hr night shift...little SK girl was fairly irritated by the clock suddenly spinning frantically and stopping an hour EARLIER than the actual time - surprise, you get to spend the extra time with all the crazies in ER.

To which the mother replies: "Yes , all those things seem bad all by themselves. But when they are put together in the right way, they make a wonderfully delicious cake!" God works the same way. Many times we wonder why He would let us go through such bad and difficult times. But God knows that when He puts these things all in His order, they always work for good! We just have to trust Him and, eventually, they will all make something wonderful!

it started out with some heaviness - i am so thankful for those in my life that force me to communicate ... just getting feelings/thoughts on the outside lets my chest relax, allows my mind to rest, and makes it simple to love.

and what some basic communication didn't fix, a walk through my favourite place in van did - Lynn Valley Canyon...on a misty day. the perfect air, the fantastically huge green everything, and great friends. followed by Artigiano's.

an admittedly delicious dinner off coconut corn aromatic prawns, candles, LIVE piano music in my living room...warmth.

oh ya, and one plastic anatomically correct frog. ;)

September 23 - Autumn Equinox

Yes, it poured rain all day on the first day of Autumn 2010. However, i found sunshine and warmth and good times on the inside! A pumpkin spice latte with giggly Etta and chatty Janea, fabulous spicy Indian style Chinese with three of the greatest men i know...amazingly there are a few good ones outside of my father and his siblings! ;) Scoured around a little more in the alleys and streets of my new haunt...cursed the rain and marveled at the green of Vancouver.

Now I'm cuddled under the blankets, with a steaming cup of tea, the window cracked open, my laptop, a few candles, and a warm heart filled with hope...

a saturday where everything went wrong...but turned out alright!

I kind of felt like i was back in portland...only the shopping is better here, and we have mountains, and i was given a latte...i saw the beauty in my city today. Even though i was totally and completely alone, and lonely, i felt a little bit at home in Vancouver. And i made a killer curry with fresh autumn squash grown close to home. :)
